Who do Mormons Worship?

People say a lot of things about Mormons, some of the things which are said are not true and other certainly are.

Some people wonder who the Mormons really worship.

Some people affirm that Mormons worship Joseph Smith or any modern Mormon Prophet.

Do Mormons Worship God?

I was a Mormon, a pretty active one for more than ten years and I can tell you that Mormons worship God, they talk about how they want to do the right things because they really look forward to living with him in the after life.

I know the word God is a loaded word since God means different things to different people.

I mean, get people from all religions in one place and you will listen to lots opinions about God, who he is, what he has done, what he actually does and his role in the things to come so don’t expect that Mormons believe in the same way that you do, that is not gonna happen.

Christian are in different religions because they don’t even agree on the basic beliefs so don’t make rules that no other religion live by.

The version of God according to mormonism:

  • Has a wife
  • Has an exalted body of flesh and bones
  • is the father of all of us including satan

Do Mormons Worship Jesus?

Mormons also worships Jesus, they believe that Jesus paid the price for our sins and that he is the son of God.

Mormons believe that after Jesus resurrection and departure, Jesus came down from Heaven visited the ancient inhabitants from the Americas.

The Book Mormon says the following about the visit of Jesus Christ to the Americas:

Jesus Christ did show himself unto the people of Nephi, as the multitude were gathered together in the land Bountiful, and did minister unto them; and on this wise did he show himself unto them.

Book of Mormon : 3 Nephi 11

Mormons believe that Jesus is the one leading the church through a man that has been called to serve as a prophet.

Who is Joseph Smith?

The Mormon church has some beliefs that make outsiders wonder if God and Jesus are the only ones Mormons worship.

Mormons also believe that in 1820, God and Jesus appeared to Joseph Smith in a Grove and that Jesus said to Joseph that all existing churches were an abomination.

These are the exact words of that experience

I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.”

Joseph Smith—History 1:19

They call that event the first vision because Joseph Smith would have more experiences that led to the restoration of the only true Church as they say.

Mormons believe that they have the whole truth. They think that you might have parts of it but not the complete puzzle.

Mormon Missionaries and Joseph Smith

Mormons missionaries usually tell you the story of Joseph Smith during the first time they meet with you.

It is important that the missionaries tell you that story because they want to emphasize that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the only true church on Earth.

They need to tell you that so you understand that regardless of religious affiliation, you need to embrace Mormonism.

So Mormons Worship Joseph Smith?

I don’t see how having a conversation about Joseph Smith is a problem or a excuse to say they don’t worship God and Jesus like other Christians do.

I don’t want to convince you to listen to the Mormon missionaries, my point is that if you wanna hate Mormonism or if you want trash it, you will find an excuse to do so.

I understand why people feel that Mormons worship Joseph Smith because it is a big part of the missionary discussions.

There is a legacy that Joseph Smith left. The narrative of Mormonism is that they are the same church that God established so if you removed Joseph Smith of the equation, this church would be just any other church in their own eyes.

Catholics claim that the church is a continuation, Mormonism claims to be a restoration.

  • What do other churches claim to be?
  • How do they close the gap between whatever Jesus did and the present time?

Even as an ex-mormon, I can’t tell you that Mormons worship Joseph Smith.

I can tell you that they study a lot of church history or at least they make an attempt to do it but not they are Joseph Smith Worshippers by any means
