Mormon Missionaries Rules

Missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, widely known as Mormon missionaries are representatives of the LDS Church.

Young women typically serve for 18 months, young men for 24, and senior couples may serve from 6 months to 24 months.

Mormons who serve as missionaries have many rules they have to follow unless they want to get sent home early.

Missionaries sent Home Early?

If you really care about being a Mormon, you really want to serve those 18 to 24 months.

When Mormons are sent home early, the community where they belong starts wondering if they broke missionary rules, got sick, or couldn’t handle being a Mormon missionary.

This is what the church has to say about missionaries who return home early:

These returned missionaries may worry how other people view them or even how the Lord views them. They may feel like they have failed or are unworthy and may judge themselves negatively. They may also have feelings of loss and may even pass through various stages of grief.

If you read the whole article, you will get a good idea of how missionaries sent home early feel.

So the fear of being sent home early is probably the second or third best reason to keep all the rules.

Mormon Missionary Rules

These are some of the most important Mormon missionary rules

  • Mormon missionaries must remain inside the borders of their area unless suitable authorization is obtained prior to leaving. Only the mission president could authorize travel outside the mission boundaries.
  • If a Mormon missionary engages in misconduct, his or her companion should report them to mission leadership as soon as possible.
  • Mormon missionaries must get up at 6:30 a.m. and go to bed at 10:30 p.m.
  • Mormon missionaries should not be alone with a member of the opposite sex.
  • A third member should be present for any meetings held with a member of the opposite sex.
  • Mormon missionaries must avoid any music that drives the Spirit away, such as music with inappropriate lyrics. Mormon missionaries usually listen to church music.
  • Mormon missionaries must avoid watching television and movies.
  • Mormon missionaries can’t date
